Understanding School Choice: Finding the Best Educational Fit for Your Child
School choice isn't about one model being superior — it's about finding the environment where your child will truly thrive.

Over the past decade, I've had the privilege of teaching and consulting in a wide range of educational environments. I've taught in high-achieving public schools, private schools, one-on-one private teaching settings, and homeschool environments. I've designed individualized learning plans around students' interests and strengths, worked with accredited curricula, and partnered closely with families to create educational experiences that meet each child's unique needs.
As a parent, I've also experienced firsthand the responsibility of making educational decisions for my own family. Like many parents, I've weighed the benefits and challenges of both public and private education, always asking the same question:
Where will my child thrive?
Why I Believe in School Choice
I believe every child deserves access to an educational environment where they can flourish academically, socially, and emotionally.
School choice isn't about suggesting one educational model is superior to another. Instead, it's about recognizing that children are wonderfully different. They learn differently, develop at different rates, and thrive in different environments.
Some students flourish in traditional public schools with outstanding teachers and strong extracurricular opportunities.
Others benefit from the smaller class sizes and specialized programming of private schools.
Some families discover that homeschooling provides the flexibility to personalize learning, pursue passions, or meet unique academic or social-emotional needs.
The best educational setting is the one that best supports the individual child — not simply the one that's most familiar.
A National Perspective
Having lived in five different states, I've witnessed how dramatically educational opportunities can vary from one community to another.
I've seen exceptional public schools where students receive incredible opportunities and teachers are empowered to innovate.
I've also seen schools with fewer resources, larger class sizes, and limited support systems.
My career began before the widespread implementation of the Common Core State Standards, giving me the opportunity to observe how educational expectations, curriculum, and instructional practices have evolved over time.
Every Child Deserves an Individualized Path
Throughout my work as an educator and educational consultant, one truth has remained constant:
The students who experience the greatest growth are those whose educational environments align with their strengths, interests, learning profiles, and goals.
Sometimes that means remaining in a traditional classroom with additional support.
Sometimes it means advocating for accommodations or specialized services.
Sometimes it means transitioning to a private school or beginning a homeschool journey.
And sometimes it means combining educational experiences in creative ways.
My role is never to tell families which option they should choose. My role is to help them understand their options, evaluate what best fits their child, and make informed, confident decisions.
Supporting Families Through Educational Decisions
Choosing a school can feel overwhelming. Families often have questions like:
Is my child in the right environment? Would another setting better support their learning? Should we consider homeschooling? How do we compare schools objectively? What questions should we ask before making a change?
These decisions deserve thoughtful consideration — not pressure or one-size-fits-all answers.
Every child has unique strengths. Every family has unique priorities. The goal is to find the educational setting where both can thrive.
My Commitment
As an educator, consultant, and parent, I believe families should feel empowered to make informed educational decisions with confidence.
Whether that means navigating public education, exploring private school options, developing a homeschool plan, or considering another educational pathway, I am committed to helping families understand their choices and build a plan that reflects their child's unique potential.
Because education isn't about finding the "best" school.
It's about finding the best fit.
